My dearest friends, first of all I apologise for overwhelming you since I know that you all help as much as you can and without your help I wouldn't be able to take care of my rescues.
Unfortunately the situation is totally out of control because donations have almost stopped mostly because of coronavirus situation and most of rescuers are facing the same nightmare crisis.
However I have 140 animals to feed every day and I am responsible and obliged to take care of them so I must ask for all possible help.

Food, vet care and the shelter costs can't wait and I am facing the situation that I don't know how to run the shelter. I have presented all details in my group but I can only rely on my true friends and supporters.
All of my animals have been saved from abuse and other terrible ordeals and they need us to protect them and keep them safe.
I am aware that I am panicking a lot but I don't know what to do because this is a nightmare and I urgently need to stabilse things especially with food and medications.


I understand that this period is bad and critical for everyone but my rescues can't survive without help.
Once again I am sorry for overwhelming you and thank you for understanding.

We saved a mum with one day old babies today
Never ending story 🤗💙🖤 yes, the situation is really difficult but this is a real emergency and typically sad Bosnian story. This beautiful girl had been left in the forest near the village in Breza, and she gave a birth in that forest today. One of my friends who had a weekend cottage there, asked me for help and I promised to help. 

First of all, that forest is highly risky place for a dog because of hunters 😔 since I didn't have a kennel prepared for a mum with babies, we managed to move mum and babies to my friend's small cottage there. Don't worry, she is safe there but I need your help to help them. I am going to take care of this mum and her babies. I must buy some quality food for the mum because she is exhausted. Also, I need to provide a vet care for her and buy some blankets and everything. Babies are just one day old. When babies get older, we will have to prepare a kennel for them but it is urgent to prepare a nice and warm place for them now 🙏💙🖤

In my experience, a lot of people that are in a rescue group on Facebook just have no real interest, they were added or invited and they probably do not feel themselves addressed when a request for donations comes along.

I bet if you check what was the last time they actually 'did' anything in the group on FB, like 'like', react to a post or even posted themselves, a lot of them have not 'done' anything in months or even years.

I have checked this for another group I became an admin of and it turned out that almost half of the 700 members had not shown any kind of activity (and in my opinion: any kind of interest) in over 6 months.

Even when I addressed each one by PM, and after a month tagged the ones that still had not responded, there were still a few hundred that just did not seem to care. Some of them even left by themselves.

The force of Facebook is also its weakness: the anonimity and lack of interpersonal contact. It works great if you want to reach large numbers of people and gain many followers, but keeping the contact 'fresh' and interesting (and productive) for all involved does not happen automatically.

Dalida, let me know if you need any help from me, apart from my semi-regular donations or support via Harmony Fund and Stichting Dierennood.

Why do Bosnian dogs need your help?

1) You will save a life. Sadly, Bosnian strays do not have the backing of large charities, and they depend on small rescue groups. So, you will be the sole chance for helping dogs.

2) You will help prevent the vicious dog business/war against the Bosnian authorities (they claim 250 euros for capturing and killing a dog despite an excellent animal welfare legislation. They break their own laws.)

3) Despite that very same strict and good Act on Protection and Welfare of Animals, Bosnian public pounds are far from high standards, and dogs are crammed in kennels and starved to death.

4) Having gone through such a hard life and ill treatment, many dogs are injured, sick or traumatised and rescuers need all possible help to help them recover. Since rescuers don't have any other source of fundraising, only your help saves lives of stray animals in Bosnia.SOME DOGS WERE LEFT IN THIS COUNTRY BY THE MILITARY, WHEN THE WAR WAS OVER...

5) You will raise awareness to the corruption and ill treatment of dogs in Bosnia, which can lead to members of your family or friends supporting or adopting the strays.

6) Bosnian public pounds and stray dogs are not humanely euthanised, but are often killed by beating them to death, or simply starving them despite the fact that killing of animals and euthanasia are criminal offenses in Bosnia. Also, many stray dogs are abused, tortured and killed on the streets.

You will feel better knowing that you have saved your dog from the hands of barbarians.

When we get them to rescue they're usually very very sick and in horrific condition.
That's why seeing these updates of them is so rewarding, to see them all happy and loved with their own families.
Our shelter/street dogs (and cats), nobody's dogs, the underdogs, breeds that are labelled as "hard to home".
We will never turn a dog away because of being of certain breed or no breed.
We are here to help them no matter where they come from.
Like our Petunia, she barely made it out of the shelter alive after being mauled by other dogs.
Here she is now, rolling in the grass on a walk with her adopter, living the happy carefree life she so deserves

 You’re not just imagining it: There’s substantial research to support the claim that dogs truly adore their owners. An animal behaviorist confirms to Inverse there are all sorts of chemical goodness going on in puppies’ brains when they’re around us. It’s even purer than you think. 

 

While we don’t know exactly how long ago humans started domesticating dogs, some scientists think our friendship could go as far back as 40,000 years. Dogs have continued to grow alongside humanity, from helping us hunt mammoths to chasing after sticks. We’ve loved them all along the way, and apparently, the feeling is mutual. 

 

“Of course dogs love their people!” animal behavior consultant Amy Shojai tells Inverse. “The hormone oxytocin is released (in both dogs and people) when they interact/have contact with someone they like. This ‘love hormone’ helps cement and increase the bond we share … it’s also the hormone that floods the system of new moms to amp up attachment to new babies.”

Just the scent of their person is enough to make a dog happy. 

A 2015 study published in the journal Behavioural Processes found that dogs connect their owner’s unique smell to pleasure. 

By utilizing functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) scans — which measure brain nerve cell levels — the researchers got an inside look at how dogs responded to their humans’ scent versus familiar dogs, unfamiliar dogs, and unfamiliar people. 

The team found that when the pups smelled their owners, it activated a reward center in their brain called the caudate nucleus. They didn’t react the same to any other scent.

We also know that dogs respond positively when we talk to them in that ridiculous high-pitched voice we all do. 

As Inverse previously reported, researchers at the University of York recently found that dogs respond more positively to dog-directed speech (DDS) than when we talk to them like people.

Scientists had 37 dogs listen to people talking to them in “dog-speak” — that high-pitched voice, coupled with “dog-relevant” phrases (e.g. “Who’s a good dog? You are!”). 

Participants would then talk to dogs in a flat done about ordinary things (e.g. “So, I went to the movies last night”). 


 

The dogs overwhelmingly preferred dog-speak, which the researchers compared to the way people talk to babies.

We may never understand all the mysteries swirling in our puppies’ minds. But we do know one thing for sure: Dogs are good, and we’re better humans because of them.
